<p>An apparatus and a method for performing handover in a mobile communication network are provided to improve speech quality for user and service provider's satisfaction by minimizing a problem possibly generated due to an active set mismatch. A transmitting/receiving unit(607) measures a neighbor base station signal and transmits a measurement report message. After the transmitting/receiving unit receives an active set update message with respect to the measurement report message, it transmits an active set update complete message informing about completion of the corresponding active set updating. After the transmitting/receiving unit transmits the active set update complete message, it receives a measurement control message including report method information from a base station. A controller(601) checks the received measurement control message. The measurement report message is transmitted in such an event triggering manner that a message is transmitted by an event in which the signal of the neighbor base station is measured. A message generating unit(603) generates a uplink message, which includes a control signal and data, under the control of the controller, and a message processing unit(605) analyzes a message, which is received from a base station, and measurement control message under the control of the controller, and then provides the controller with those messages.</p> |
