PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of conveying an equivalent amount necessary for surely removing dregs, paper powder, dust and the like on a surface coating material even when a cleaning sheet with a short length is used. SOLUTION: When a cleaning operation is indicated by a cleaning button 21, a conveyance controlling part 18 performs a reciprocating movement of a cleaning sheet by rotating positively and reversely a platen roller 11. In addition, a label detecting sensor 17 is provided to detect timing marks drawn on the cleaning sheet at intervals. The conveyance controlling part 18 turns reversely the conveying direction of the cleaning sheet when either of the timing marks 32a and 32b is detected by the label detecting sensor 17.
