PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary electric machine wherein temperature rise at an upper-layer coil side is suppressed and characteristics can be ensured without an insulating material high in heat resistance. SOLUTION: The rotary electric machine 1 includes an armature coil 32 constructed of the upper-layer coil side 320 and a lower-layer coil side 321. A slot housing portion 320a of the upper-layer coil side 320 is housed in a slot 311 on the anti-axial center side. A slot housing portion 321a of the lower-layer coil side 321 is housed in the slot 311 on the axial center side. For this reason, the slot housing portion 320a is inferior in heat radiation to the slot housing portion 321a. However, the sectional area of the slot housing portion 320a is set larger than that of the slot housing portion 321a, and it is possible to reduce resistance and thus reduce heat production. Therefore, it is possible to use an insulating film low in heat resistance in the rotary electric machine required to be used with a high current or for a long time.
