A time-shift recording method for a hard disk-type recorder is provided to display program data into thumbnail images to a user while fixing the program data when the program of a temporary time-shift area stored for time-shift is stored in other media, thereby preventing a loss of data in the end of the time-shift and performing the copy operation of the program data easier. A time-shift recording method for a hard disk-type recorder comprises the following steps of: outputting the audio and video signals of a broadcast program to the outside and recording the outputted audio and video signals in an HDD(Hard Disk Drive) if an arbitrary broadcast program is received to the hard disk-type recorder(S200~S202); fixing a time-shift area and recording the current broadcast program continuously in the temporary time-shift area of the HDD if time-shift recording is requested(S204~S208); displaying the broadcast program prestored in the time-shift area into a thumbnail image at predetermined time intervals(S210); and copying a broadcast program corresponding to selected thumbnail information if the arbitrary thumbnail information is selected from the outside(S212~S218).
