PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte for a battery having high safety and capable of enhancing battery performance. SOLUTION: The electrolyte for the battery contains ionic liquid having double bond between phosphorus-nitrogen; an ester compound represented by formula (1) [in the formula, R<SP>1</SP>represents a 1-2C alkyl group; R<SP>2</SP>represents a 2-4C alkenyl group, a propargyl group, or an alkyl group; and R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>may form a ring by bonding each other]; and a supporting electrolyte.
