PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To take advantage of a limited radio communication resource effectively. SOLUTION: In a communication system, when a transmission side FAX machine 10 transmits data of a FAX format, a converter 20 converts the data into data of a mail format, and a reception side cellphone 60 receives this mail by radio communication via a mail server 30. In this communication system, a communication controller 40 periodically asks the mail server whether or not a slave mail directed to a mail address set in the reception side cellphone exists. In short, the communication controller performs slave mail existence check processing in place of the reception side cellphone. When the slave mail directed to the reception side cellphone is held in the mail server, the communication controller sends notice information to the effect to the reception side cellphone, and the reception side cellphone is connected to the mail server based on the notice information so that the reception side cellphone can receive the slave mail addressed to the mail address.
