PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant protection system excellent in safety by improving response to a collision while preventing the malfunction of a safety protection device. SOLUTION: The occupant protection system comprises: a side impact pressure sensor P detecting deformation in component of the vehicle as increase in pressure, in side impact of a vehicle; a lateral collision deformation sensing switch S mechanically operated by the deformation of the component of the vehicle; and a CPU 330 operating the safety protection device such as a driver's seat airbag module 351. When the pressure detected by the pressure sensor P exceeds a predetermined set value and the deformation sensing switch S is operated by the deformation of the component, the CPU 300 operates the safety protection device.
