<p>A coding device is comprised of an initial resolution coding means that codes an initial resolution image sampled from an original image at every interval of predetermined pixels, and a high resolution coding means that codes images at sequentially half sampling intervals. The high resolution coding means is characterized in comprising a pixel value estimating means that carries out a liner interpolation from four pixels adjacent to a central pixel so as to estimate a value of the central pixel centrally positioned in the adjacent four pixels coded in previous resolution out of pixels to be coded in the present resolution and that also carries out liner interpolations from adjacent four pixels positioned on the left, right, top and bottom of respective residual pixels as the centers so as to estimate values of the residual pixels, an estimate error calculating unit that determines residual differences between pixels subjected to coding and their estimated values, and a variable length coding means that codes the residual differences.</p> |
