APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING WORKPIECE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for identifying numerous kinds of workpieces put in a conveyer without errors. SOLUTION: The identifying apparatus has: a stopper (6) for restraining movement of a workpiece (4) in the conveying direction of the conveyer (2); a measuring device (8) for measuring a distance to the surface of the workpiece (4); a moving device (5) for moving the measuring device (8) in the direction parallel to the conveying direction of the conveyer (2); and a controller (14). The controller (14) is structured to determine whether a blind bore (16) is present on the surface of the workpiece (4) measured by the measuring device (8) and the location of the workpiece (4) from an output from the device (8) which measures the distance to the surface of the workpiece (4) while moving by the moving device (10).
