A resinous copolymer of acrylonitrile with 15 to 70 wt. per cent of vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride or both are stabilized by incorporating in the copolymer a triorgano-phosphorus compound of the general formula: <FORM:0855484/IV(a)/1> where X, X1 and X2 represent unsubstituted or substituted hydrocarbyl or hydrocarbyloxy radicals and when one or more of the X, X1, and X2 radicals is a hydrocarbyloxy radical at least one of the hydrocarbyloxy radicals contains an aliphatic carbon atom connected through an oxygen atom to the phosphorus atom, and further X1 and X2 may together represent a divalent radical consisting of a carbon chain terminated by oxygen atoms, which radical may be unsubstituted, or substituted by hydrocarbyl and/or hydrocarbyloxy radicals. The Specification contains a very extensive list of compounds of the above general formula. Examples of these compounds are triethyl phosphate, tridodecyl phosphate, tri-(2-methylpropenyl) phosphite, dibutyl phenylphosphonite, triphenyl phosphine, 2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-1, 3, 2-dioxaphospholane, 2-methoxy-4-propyl-5-ethyl-1, 3, 2- dioxaphosphorinane. The resin and the organophosphorus compound may be dissolved in an organic solvent such as acetonitrile, acetone, and dimethyl formamide. The solutions may be spun into fibres. |
