FUNCTIONAL FOOD COMPRISING EXTRACT OF NELUMBO NUCIFERA GAERTN FOR THE PREVENTION AND AMELIORATION OF OSTEOPOROSIS

A healthful food containing a lotus root extract for the prevention and improvement of osteoporosis is provided to increase bone mineral density and to reduce side effects. A healthful food for the prevention and improvement of osteoporosis contains a lotus root extract as an effective ingredient. The lotus root extract is made by performing extraction with hot water, ethanol, or their mixed solvent. The ethanol concentration of the mixed solvent is 10~40%, and the concentration of the ethanol is 30%. The lotus root extract is used as the effective ingredient of a pharmaceutical composition, wherein the effective content of the lotus root extract is 10~5000mg/kg and the pharmaceutical composition is administered 1~3times a day. In addition, the lotus root extract is added to food or beverage at a level of 0.001~90wt%.
