A blower and heat exchanger assembly of Z-shaped configuration includes a blower (9), an air flow actuator (10) such as a temperature door, and a heater core (11). A coolant heater is coupled to the heater core and to an engine coolant system. The evaporator (2), a compressor, and a condenser define a closed refrigeration loop. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling the temperature of a vehicle cabin.
