<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus capable of dividing a slaughtered animal along the symmetry plane. <P>SOLUTION: The invention provides a controlling means 1 for an apparatus to divide a slaughtered animal along its symmetry plane. The apparatus contains a cutting blade/dividing knife or a saw 5 for performing the symmetrical division of the body, the controlling means 1 contains at least two essentially identical control elements, i.e. the first control element 2 and the second control element 3, the first control element 2 and the second control element 3 are arranged essentially opposite to each other, and each control means 2, 3 contains a plane 20 engaging with the vertebral column 9 including the spinal processes 4 totally or partly isolated by the first cutting means.
