PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make brake shoes uniformly slide on and contact the treads of wheels in braking and inhibit uneven abrasion from occurring in the slide parts of a brake beam and the guide grooves of side beams. SOLUTION: A wheel tread brake device is constructed so that the guide grooves 11a for the brake beam 12 are respectively formed in the inner sides of the opposed side beams 11 of a truck frame, the slide parts 12a provided on the opposite ends of the brake beam are inserted in the guide grooves to suspend the brake beam in a parallel direction to an axle and movably in the axle direction, and brake shoe heads 15 of the brake shoes 14 for sliding and contacting on the treads 13a of the wheels 13 are attached to the brake beam. In the wheel tread brake device, brake shoe head mounting brackets 12b are respectively provided on inner sides from the respective slide parts of the brake beam to project in the axle direction, the brake shoe heads 25 are rotatably installed to the brake shoe head mounting brackets with brake shoe pins 26, slide blocks 17 are ratatably fitted onto the tips of the brake shoe pins, and the slide blocks are inserted on axle sides from the slide parts of the guide grooves.
