PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly usable vacuum cleaner capable of highly efficiently removing dust without any waste and retaining a high suction force. SOLUTION: This vacuum cleaner includes a dust collection means 10 for collecting dust, a dust removal means 5 removing the dust stuck to the inner wall of the dust collection means 10, and a dust amount detection means 14 provided near the dust collection means 10 and detecting the amount of dust removed from the dust collection means; changes the actuation time of the dust removal means according to the amount of the dust detected by the dust amount detection means 14; and, for example, when there is much dust to be removed, elongates the actuation time of the dust removal means 5, and when there is little dust to be removed, shortens the actuation time of the dust removal means 5 to prevent the needless actuation of the dust removal means 5, highly efficiently remove the dust, and constantly and surely remove the dust.
