The machine (1) has a stator (2) and a rotor (3) supported using an air bearing (4a, 4b) that includes an air bearing gap (5). A gap dimension (6) of the air bearing gap is changeable using an adjusting device. Each air bearing includes two bearing units (8, 9) that are formed as air bearing outer and inner parts, respectively. The adjusting device moves the air bearing outer part of the air bearing, where the air bearing outer part is axially movably arranged at a housing (12) of the machine. The adjusting device includes an energy storage device that is formed as a spring system (7).
