PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an optical device by which the optical device is molded with the minimum steps without causing optical defects such as cloudiness or crack and without causing the fusion of glass or the deposition of produced material on the surface of a mold in press molding. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the optical device 1 having a molding processed optical functional surface 4 formed by molding an optical device base material 2, is provided with a surface layer forming step for forming a surface layer 3 comprising a mixed film 3 formed by mixing at least two or more kinds of oxides, fluorides, sulfides or nitride on a surface 2a corresponding to the molding processed optical functional surface in the surface of the optical device base material 2 and having refractive index nearly equal to that of the optical device base material 2 and a press molding step for heating the optical device base material 2 on which the surface layer 3 is formed and press-molding the surface 2a of the optical device base material 2 corresponding to the molding processed optical functional surface using a molding die.
