Method and apparatus for facilitating release of an ophthalmic lens (108) from a mold part (102) used to fashion the lens. Subsequent to formation of the lens, the lens may be adhered to the mold part and a lens swelling subs tance is utilized to cause a portion of the lens to separate from the mold p art and create a pathway (110) for a hydration solution to enter between the lens and the mold part and effect release of the lens.
