An apparatus and a method for providing and collecting position information using an RFID scheme are provided to predict the possibility of collision between vehicles by utilizing collected position information. An apparatus for providing and collecting position information includes plural RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) tags(13), plural sensor nodes(14), and an information collecting server(15). The RFID tags provide tag information by utilizing wireless frequency delivered from an RFID reader(11) mounted in a vehicle so as to provide the current position information of the vehicles. The sensor nodes sense the driving time of the RFID tags and transmit the sensed information through a sensor network. The information collecting server collects the sensed information from the sensor node and processes the collected information. Groups are formed by at least two or more RFID tags and a sensor node and constantly formed on respective lanes.
