PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact discharge lamp lighting device with the small number of components even for making complicated control. SOLUTION: In the discharge lamp lighting device for lighting a discharge lamp La through an LC resonance circuit by an oscillating output of an inverter circuit 2 converting an output of a direct-current power source circuit into a high-frequency voltage, an integrated circuit for control 4 for driving control of switching elements Q1, Q2 of the inverter circuit 2 includes a timer circuit 42 deciding on state change-over time of prior preheating, start-up, and lighting of the discharge lamp La, an inverter control circuit 44 outputting driving signals of the switching elements Q1, Q2, an output control circuit controlling variation or stopping of driving signal periods, and an operating state output circuit 43 to output state signals corresponding to at least a lighting state, as well as an operation setting circuit 6 to input a state signal from the operating state output circuit 43 and to output a control signal to an output control circuit 41 outside the integrated circuit for control 4.
