<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of efficiently encoding a moving image in accordance with an exposure time. <P>SOLUTION: A digital camera 1 is provided with an imaging element 3, an exposure time adjusting part 8 for adjusting the exposure time of the imaging element 3, and an encoding part 6 for detecting a motion vector in an image obtained from the imaging element 3, performing motion compensation processing using the motion vector and encoding a moving image. A search range changing part 11 changes the width of a search range of the motion vector on the basis of the exposure time of the imaging element 3.
