PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an internal combustion engine from being rotated at a higher speed beyond a specified speed by making a decision that a fuel shut-off valve is defective. SOLUTION: This fuel injection device is equipped with a fuel shut-off valve disposed to a fuel feeding passage feeding fuel to a pump chamber to be expanded/contracted by the reciprocal movement of a plunger, and with a spill valve disposed to a spill passage releasing fuel to the spill passage from the pump chamber. When an internal combustion engine is suspended, the closing timing of the spill valve is hastened so as to allow the intake of fuel from the spill passage to be interrupted (step 210). After that, the fuel shut-off valve is closed so as to allow a fuel feeding passage to be interrupted (step 220). When the internal combustion engine still does not stop (step 230), it is decided that the fuel shut-off valve is defective in a state that it is opened to inform the deficiency. |
