An apparatus and a method for controlling camera operations according to detected temperature are provided to perform a normal photographing operation by performing an auto warming up operation for emitting heat by forcibly driving motors installed within a camera if the camera inner temperature is lower than preset reference temperature and compensate focus distortion, caused by change of camera barrel length and a refractive index of a focus lens, by variably moving a location of the focus lens if the camera inner temperature is suddenly changed in a state when a manual focus mode is set. A camera inner temperature and a focus lens location during power off are stored(S11). After detecting camera inner temperature during power on, a difference value between the camera inner temperatures during the power off and the camera inner temperature during the power on is calculated(S16). If the calculated temperature difference value exceeds a preset reference temperature difference value, a focus compensation value is calculated based on a difference value between an optimum focus lens location corresponding to the camera inner temperature during power on and a focus lens location during power off(S17). According to the calculated focus compensation value, a location of a focus lens is moved to perform an auto focus operation within a predetermined range(S18). A mode is switched into a manual focus mode to perform a camera photographing operation normally(S19).
