PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable displaying an image of superior quality, even if it is a plasma display panel having a large display screen size. SOLUTION: A plasma display panel drive method is such that one-field period constituted of a plurality of subfields each having an initialization period, a writing period and a sustaining period, and in an initialization period of at least one of the plurality of subfields, an initialization period portion which performs initialization discharge by applying a ramped-waveform voltage to a scanning electrode and an abnormal electric charge, erasing portion applying a down-slope-waveform voltage, after applying a plurality of rectangular waveforms to the scanning electrode are provided.
