PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method for producing a HT-poly(3-alkylthiophene), which provides effective, economical, and larger production flexibility, and is appropriate for a large scale industrial process. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polymer includes initiating the polymerization reaction by adding a soluble thiophene having at least two leaving groups, and an effective amount of Ni(II) catalyst.
