PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact magnetic refrigerating system not needing movement of fluid such as liquid and gas in transporting cold, and to provide a magnetic refrigerating method capable of realizing the system. SOLUTION: Heat is transported from one end to the other end of a magnetic refrigerating layer unit constituted by stacking at least one or more units including a magnetic material A having magnetocaloric effect for raising a temperature by application of magnetic field and lowering the temperature by removing magnetic field, a magnetic material B having magnetocaloric effect for lowering the temperature by application of magnetic field and rising the temperature by removing magnetic field, a material a having high heat conductive property by application of magnetic field and degrading its heat conductive property by removing magnetic field, and a material b having low heat conductive property by application of magnetic field and raising heat conductive property by removing magnetic field, and formed by stacking these materials in the order of AaBb or AbBa, by applying the magnetic field by a magnetic field applying means, and temporally repeatedly changing the magnitude of the magnetic field.
