PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an apparatus and a method for more correctly automatically identifying a device mounted on an apparatus and executing setting corresponding to the device. SOLUTION: A television receiver 10 can output at least two kinds of confirmation signals to a tuner 2 mounted on the apparatus 10 and acquire response data outputted from the tuner 2 in response to the confirmation signals. If it can be determined that the acquired response data are response data corresponding to a previously registered predetermined device, it can be determined that the tuner 2 mounted on the television receiver 10 is a predetermined tuner. The setting in the television receiver 10 is switched to setting corresponding to the tuner 2 so that the tuner 2 can preferably work, and thus, the television receiver 10 can satisfactorily operate.
