In an intermediate "Scotch" type feed, the traveller which distributes carded. material on a conveyer is reciprocated. thereacross by an endless travelling chain which accelerates from one end of the movement of the traveller to the middle of the traverse and decelerates therefrom to the other end of the movement. A. chain-driving wheel is connected by beveL gears to a shaft C which is driven from a uniformly rotating shaft A by means of. gears 10, 17 18, 39, and sprockets 4, 40,. tensioning sprocket 30, sprockets 1, 21, 22, 20, and driving chains 28, 26, 25, therefor: sprocket 4 or 40 is set eccentrically to the gear 39 or sprocket 1 in order to produce the necessary variation in the speed of the shaft C.
