PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator capable of surely removing the frost deposited on to a R evaporator and reducing the power consumption. SOLUTION: This refrigerator 1 where a refrigerating mode and a freezing mode are performed alternately, comprises a R fan 11 for distributing the air cooled by the R evaporator 10 to a refrigeration compartment 8, a R heater 22 for removing the frost deposited on the R evaporator, a F heater 28 for removing frost deposited on a F evaporator 14, and a load detecting means 41 for detecting the magnitude of the load with respect to the R evaporator. The R fan is operated continuously, electric power is distributed to the R heater to defrost the R evaporator by the R heater; during the time the freezing mode is stopped, and the F evaporator is defrosted by distributing electric power to the F heater; and the timing for starting power distribution to the R heater for the R heater defrosting is adjusted, according to the magnitude of the load with respect to the R evaporator.
