A matrix chip has a N inputs, M outputs, and a number of crosspoint switches, preferably NxM crosspoint switches. The crosspoint switches form a switching matrix, which is preferably a square matrix and which connects the inputs and outputs in a manner that any input is randomly connectable to any output.
