A method of preventing erroneous detection of the failure of a fuel system is provided to allow an ECU to detect the repeated pressing of a brake pedal by a driver for predetermined time and stop the detection of the failure of the fuel system for predetermined time, so that an unexpected field claim is blocked to prevent the expenditure of repair cost. The pressing of a brake pedal is detected. Time is measured when the pressing of the brake pedal is detected, and the time is accumulated. It is detected that the brake pedal is repeatedly pressed. The pressing number of the brake pedal is calculated for preset time. It is determined if the accumulated time is greater than the preset time. It is determined if the pressing number is greater than a reference value if the accumulated time is greater than the preset time. The time interval of the stopping of the failure detection of an engine is increased if the pressing number is greater than the reference number. The time interval of the stopping of the failure detection is reduced if the pressing number is smaller than the reference number.
