摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time until an existence of an obstacle is decided when there is a good possibility of the existence of the obstacle existing concerning a vehicle obstacle detector. SOLUTION: The vehicle obstacle detector is provided with a clearance sonar sensor for transmitting an ultrasonic signal at each prescribed time on the periphery of a vehicle and for receiving a reflection signal of the ultrasonic signal, and decides the existence of the obstacle on the periphery of the vehicle when the number of times in which a receiving level of the received reflection signal is a threshold value or more, continues prescribed number-of-times. The detector detects an arrangement position direction of the clearance sonar sensor receiving the reflection signal of the transmitted ultrasonic signal as a direction where the obstacle may exist and detects a gaze direction of a driver, based on an imaged image by a face-direction detection camera. When the gaze direction of the driver and the arrangement position direction of the clearance sonar sensor substantially matche each other, the prescribed number-of-times which is the threshold value of continuous receiving number-of-times of the reflection signal to reach in order to decide the existence of the obstacle is smaller than the normal.
