A method for controlling a speed of a vehicle is provided to improve the fuel efficiency by utilizing inertia energy, which is created when the vehicle is traveling, based on the road condition. In a method for controlling a speed of a vehicle, whether a steady speed release signal is received or not is determined(S120). If the steady speed release signal is not received, whether a traveling speed is within a range from a minimum operation speed to a maximum operation speed or not is determined. If the traveling speed is greater than the minimum operation speed(S130), the traveling speed is accelerated(S140) and then whether the traveling speed exceeds the maximum operation speed or not is determined(S150). If the traveling speed exceeds the maximum operation speed, a neutral mode driving is performed(S160). After determining whether an abnormal speed variation is shown or not(S170), a control cruise is performed(S180).
