PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of effectively cooling a light modulation element. SOLUTION: The projector 1 includes: a light source device; a liquid crystal panel 4511 by which a luminous flux emitted from the light source device is modulated according to image information; a projection optical device by which the luminous flux modulated by the liquid crystal panel 4511 is magnified and projected; and a cooling device 5 which has a centrifugal fan 51 by which air sucked by the rotation of a fan is discharged in the direction of a tangent of the rotation and which cools the liquid crystal panel 4511 by sending air to this panel. The cooling device 5 sends the air to the liquid crystal panel 4511 from a direction R1 inclined at a predetermined angleθwith respect to the light modulation face S of the liquid crystal panel 4511.
