The method involves determining current value of an output voltage of the battery (12) and comparison with pre-determined threshold value, which limits a lower voltage range over a speed-voltage relation of a motor speed of the motor (4). With the detected overstepping of the threshold value by the actual value, which is smaller than the one average value, the speed-voltage relation on another average value of the battery is adjusted between the threshold value and an upper reference value of the output voltage, where the another average value is largely zero. An independent claim is also included for a machine tool with a controller.
