PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such the wasteful problem that recognition results are reported every time each result differs from map data in the case that landmark recognition information obtained by using an in-vehicle camera is reported to a map center, since results of image recognition are significantly varied by photographing conditions and states of its system. SOLUTION: A landmark recognizing system is provided with: an image recognizing means for outputting a recognition result of a landmark and its probability; a photographing condition evaluating means for evaluating difficulty of recognition based on conditions such as brightness, contrast, weather and the like; a recognition history managing means for making such the judgement that a place to be reported is not any object to be reported for a past fixed period; and a transmitting condition determining means for determining whether or not reporting to the map center should be performed in consideration of a recognition score, a photographing condition and a report history. Therefore, updated information is reported to the map center only when the photographing condition is good, and no transmission history exists, and the recognition score is high, whereby accuracy of the updated information is improved, and the frequency of reporting is reduced.
