发明名称 Sheet binding machines
摘要 738,411. Edge binding machines. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO., Ltd. April 30, 1954 [Feb. 10, 1953], No. 3702/53. Class 73. A motor driven edge binding machine, e.g. for binding the edges of carbon sheets, comprises (a) upper and lower sheet feeding rollers 6, 5, Figs. 2, 5 geared to each other and driven from a main driving shaft 3 coupled to the lower roller 5 by a clutch device 73, 80, (b) a feed adjusting mechanism 66, 68 associated with the main shaft 3 for determining the amount of rotation of the lower roller and thereby the amount of feed of the sheets, (c) a pair of upper and lower feeding devices 25, 26 and 21, 22 for feeding adhesive tapes T2, T1 into positions above and below a margin of the sheet and (d) conveying belts 9 and feed rollers 60, 61 for conveying the bound sheet to a guillotine 49, 50 which is arranged to operate automatically in timed sequence with the feeding devices and rollers so as to sever the tapes at a predetermined distance from the trailing edge of the bound sheet. The sheets are placed on a table 19 with a graduated scale 20, the table 19 being supported by a threaded spindle 17 engaged by a table adjustment screw 18 formed with teeth 39 adapted to be engaged by a pawl 38 on a pivoted arm 35 connected by a link 34 to the drive shaft 3 so that the screw 18 is rotated a predetermined amount for each feed of sheet to ensure that the succeeding sheet will be aligned with the nip between the rollers 5, 6. The guillotine is operated by a crank arm 28, Fig. 6 (not shown) with a projecting pin 43 which, on rotation of the arm 28, abuts a stud 44 on one end of an arm 45 pivoted to the machine frame at 46, Fig. 2. Rigid with the other end of the arm 45 is a further arm 47, the underside of which is adapted to depress the upper movable guillotine blade 49 co-operating with a fixed blade 50, the blades normally being maintained apart by a spring 51. The guillotine mounting is adjustable on a graduated scale 52 so that the length of the "tail" of the tape can be varied. Secured to the machine frame is a circular graduated scale 66, Figs. 5; 8, in which is located a slide 68 provided with a cam 71 and setting pointer 72, the arrangement being such that to bind a 6 inch sheet, the pointer is set at 6 inches and the rollers 5, 6, will give a 7 inch feed which provides a 1 inch tape tail. The clutch and feed adjustment mechanism for this arrangement is as follows :-the lower feed roller 5 is coaxially disposed about the shaft 3 and a toothed disc 73, Fig. 8, is mounted on a stub shaft of the roller 5 and co-operates with the toothed portion 74 of a pivotally mounted arrestor 75. An arm 76 mounted on the shaft 3 is provided with a pivoted pawl 80 the lower end 81 of which is spring-urged into engagement with the disc 73 but can be held out of engagement by a spring urged crank 85 pivoted on the arm 76. The other end of the pawl 80 is provided with a depending portion 82 which is located between the disc 73 and scale 66 and is provided with a stud 83, Fig. 10, (not shown) which on rotation of the shaft 3 is adapted to engage the slide cam 71 to move the pawl 80 out of engagement with the disc 73 ; simultaneously the arrestor 75 is brought into engagement therewith. On operating the clutch of the continuously running motor of the machine, the arrestor 75 is pivoted out of engagement with the disc 73 and simultaneously a plunger 105 moves upwardly to move the crank 85 out of engagement with the pawl 80 which then engages with the disc 73 to initiate the movement of the rollers 5, 6 and feeding of the sheet and tapes. The disc 73 and pawl 80 then rotate together until the stud 83, Fig. 10 (not shown), engages the cam 71 on the pre-set slide 68. The pawl 80 is then rocked out of engagement with the disc 73 and is held disengaged through the remainder of the cycle by the crank 85. At the same time as the stud engages the cam 71, a cam plate 89 on the shaft 3 depresses a plunger 92 to pivot the arrestor 75 into engagement with the disc 73, thus terminating the feeding-movement of the rollers 5, 6.
