The method involves operating an electrical machine (9) by a supply circuit (5) in a star serial circuit with field oriented control, where the supply circuit is controlled using a control circuit (12). The driven magnetic force remains equal before and after failure of one of the phases, and the electrical machine is operated with a star point connection (15) e.g. star point cable. A controllable bridge circuit is used as the supply circuit.
