An edge of a sliding member such as a glass window a is guided and supported by a channel c lined with a narrow fabric d woven from a durable and inexpensive textile material such as cotton having at least two plies and an integral central longitudinal reinforcement or enlargement d<SP>1</SP> formed by a localised concentration of body warps or by the use of binder warps. As shewn the window pane a is guided at the top in a metal channel c secured to the frame b and at the bottom is provided with an edge reinforcement e which forms .the channel c and slides relative to a cylindrical edge g<SP>1</SP> on a rigid member g secured to the frame b. The.channel c has inwardly directed beads c<SP>1</SP> and the fabric may have reinforcements or enlargements d<SP>3</SP> similar to that d<SP>1</SP>. In a modification the pane a is provided with an edge reinforcement forming a projecting tongue which is guided by a fabric lined channel secured to the frame b.</p> |
