Rubber is reclaimed by mechanical working at an elevated temperature in the presence of a reclaiming oil, e.g. aromatic or naphthenic oils obtained in the refining of petroleum, or bitumen or a mixture of bitumen and oil, and either an ester of a monobasic organic acid, e.g. lauric or oleic acid and a polyglycol, e.g. polyethylene glycol or a salt of a monobasic organic acid and a quaternary ammonium compound, e.g. pyridinium compounds having linked to the nitrogen atom an alkyl chain containing 10 to 22 carbon atoms. A suitable substance may be cetyl pyridinium oleate. The ester or salt is preferably soluble in at least 5 per cent, by weight, of the oil.
|
