Disclosed are a photoelectric conversion device using oxide semiconductor fine particles sensitized with a methine dye represented by the formula (1) below, and a solar cell utilizing such a photoelectric conversion device. The solar cell has high conversion efficiency and can be obtained at low cost. (In the formula (1), n represents an integer of 0-7; R1 represents an optionally substituted aromatic residue or aliphatic hydrocarbon residue, or an acyl group; X represents an optionally substituted hydrocarbon residue having 2-4 carbon atoms; Y represents a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted aromatic residue or aliphatic hydrocarbon residue, a carboxyl group or the like, and preferably represents a carboxyl group; Z represents an optionally substituted aromatic residue or aliphatic hydrocarbon residue, or an acyl group; A1, A2 and A3 independently represent a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted aromatic residue or aliphatic hydrocarbon residue or the like, and preferably represents a hydrogen atom; and the benzene ring a may have a substituent other than those shown in the above formula.) |
