A textile knitting machine has two or more knitting stations each of which includes a drafting station to produce a group of stretched fibres. The drafting station has an initial clamping line on which the stretched fibres rest. A compression zone for the stretched fibres is located between the initial clamping line and the knitting station. The compression zone may have a mechanical and/or a pneumatic compression unit.
