PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a fault of an excitation device using a piezoelectric element, to be easily detected with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: An image pickup device includes: an imaging device for photoelectric conversion of a subject image; an optical element disposed in front of the imaging device; the excitation device provided with a piezoelectric element 120b which oscillates the optical element; a driving part 5 for applying a voltage to the piezoelectric element; a current limit resistance 3 which is connected between the driving part and the piezoelectric element and limits a charging current supplied to the piezoelectric element; and a detection part 4 which detects a fault of the excitation device on the basis of voltages generated in both ends of the current limit resistance in response to a rise or a fall of the voltage applied to the piezoelectric element.
