A method for performing authentication and payment with a mobile terminal is provided to enable the mobile terminal to communicate with an authentication terminal for the authentication/payment without an RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) chip by enabling the mobile terminal to switch the sleep mode to a communication mode including a communication slot inserted between listening slots when the authentication terminal is recognized. A mobile terminal receives an acknowledge code from the authentication terminal(S3). The mobile terminal changes the sleep mode into the communication mode for communicating with the authentication terminal and transmits an ID code of the mobile terminal to the authentication terminal by responding to the acknowledge code(S5). The mobile terminal receives an authentication message for authenticating the mobile terminal based on the ID code of the mobile terminal from an authentication terminal through the authentication terminal(S7). The mobile terminal is changed into the sleep mode after the authentication message is received(S9). The communication mode includes the communication slot, which is used for communicating with the authentication terminal, inserted between the listening slots. |
