DYNAMIC GAIN ADJUSTING METHOD ACCORDING TO BRIGHTNESS, AND APPARATUS THEREOF

An apparatus and a method for automatic gain control are provided to achieve automatic gain control according to brightness of an image, thereby preventing saturation of the image, which is generated at the operating time of a peaking block. An APL(Average Picture Level) analyzer(210) computes an APL value of an input image signal. A dynamic gain factor calculator(220) calculates a dynamic gain factor based on the APL value. A gain unit(130) controls a gain value dynamically according to the dynamic gain factor to amplify or reduce a high frequency component separated from the input image signal. The APL analyzer computes the APL value of the input image signal by the frame unit.
