PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device which can read a manuscript by fixing the distance between the manuscript and an image reading means while fixing the conveying speed of the manuscript, and also can read the manuscript with high precision, and to provide an image forming device. SOLUTION: A copying machine 1 comprises: a manuscript conveying path including a reading position where the manuscript is conveyed, a contact image sensor 9 arranged in a reading position on the manuscript conveying path for reading the manuscript conveyed on the manuscript conveying path, a conveying belt 10 facing the contact image sensor 9 and sandwiching the manuscript conveying path for conveying by adsorbing the manuscript, a controller 100 and a conveying belt drive motor 102 for controlling the drive of the conveying belt 10, and a flexible member 34 for pressing the manuscript to the conveying belt 10.
