METHOD OF MEASURING THE DRIFT OF A CURRENT ON THE SURFACE OF RIVERS USING LARGE SCALE IMAGE VELOCIMETRY

A method of measuring a surface flow rate of a river is provided to measure the flow rate of the river even from a complicated flow rate distribution by taking pictures of the river. An image of a surface of a river is acquired by using a video camera or a digital camera(100). The converted image is analyzed, so a surface flow rate of the river or a flow path is measured(300). The images of the surface of the river are successively acquired by using the digital camera or by using a normal video camera. The images from the video camera are divided into respective frames. A color image from the camera is converted into a gray scale image.
