PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starch-based coating composition forming a coating film superior in storage stability as an one component-type coating, also superior in drying property, finishing property, pencil hardness, scratch resistance, adhesiveness, alkali resistance, solvent resistance and weather resistance, and an article coated with this starch-based coating composition. SOLUTION: The starch-based coating composition contains a resin composition prepared by reacting a starch and/or a denatured starch (A) with a product (B) having isocyanate group, obtained by reacting a polyisocyanate compound (b1) with a polyhydric alcohol (b2), as a binder; or a resin composition prepared by reacting these (A) and (B) with a resin prepared by radically polymerizing a mixture comprising an aromatic radically polymerizable unsaturated monomer, a hydroxy group-containing radically polymerizable unsaturated monomer, and when desired, another radically polymerizable unsaturated monomer, as a binder.
