PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize securely an inspection object, and to simplify configuration and reduce the size, in an image reading apparatus in which a guide pipe is projected so as to surround a view field of a camera from an apparatus main body. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus 1 comprises a camera 2 for imaging the inspection object, a side lighting illumination LED 3 for illuminating the inspection object, and a guide pipe 5 surrounding the view field of the camera 2. The camera 2 and the side lighting illumination LED 3 are housed in the apparatus main body 10, while the guide pipe 5 is projected into an imaging direction of the camera 2 from the apparatus main body 10. A reflecting part 51 is provided at a tip portion of the guide pipe 5. The light emitted from the side lighting illumination LED 3 is optically guided into the guide pipe 5 to illuminate the inspection object by a side lighting method after being emitted into an inner diameter direction of the guide pipe 5 by reflection at a reflecting part 51. Since the side lighting illumination LED 3 is housed in the apparatus main body 10, a mounting structure of the side lighting illumination LED 3 and a wiring structure can be simplified and the image reading apparatus 1 becomes small.
