An apparatus for confirming media information in a portable terminal and a method are provided to arrange lists of reproducible media files, thereby solving inconvenience of confirming media information by selecting directory items in order to notify the media information. A media manager(210) receives instructions of a controller(200), and confirms meta information of a media file to generate browsing information. The controller(200) instructs the media manager(210) to generate the browsing information. An input unit(202) inputs a searching method of media information. The controller(200) receives the browsing information from the media manager(210), and outputs the browsing information.
